Syndicat d’agglomération nouvelle of Marne-la-Vallée / Val Maubuée
The new town of Marne-la-Vallée Val Maubuée was created in 1972 to balance the Ile-de-France region development towards the East. In nearly four decades, the people of Val Maubuée have built a dynamic community just 20 km East of Paris. Today Val Maubuée has 87 000 inhabitants, a workforce of 40 000 jobs and 18 000 students enrolled in its major engineering schools and university.
The six municipalities of which it is comprised, Champs-sur Marne, Croissy Beaubourg, Emerainville, Lognes, Noisiel and Torcy have all retained a wealth of natural and cultural heritage and a living environment with more than 40% of green and blue spaces. Open green spaces account for 1.700 ha. of the 3.800 ha. of the total land area. The Marne River and its watershed run through the landscape, dotted with 28 city-maintained ponds. Val Maubuée also figures a huge variety of urban parks, woodlands and walking paths. The cultural patrimony with the industrial heritage of the Cité Menier, the Castle of Champs-sur-Marne as well as the more recent business parks are part of Val Maubuée’s landscape identity.
In the framework of differentiated management principles and of the new biodiversity charter for the Ile-de-France region, Marne-la-Vallée/Val Maubuée is developing a SCOP - Shéma de Cohérence et d’Orientation Paysagère: coherence and orientation plan for landscapes. The project consists in elaborating a global and integrated plan of landscapes’ management, taking into account the territorial strategy and urban masterplan, in order to develop a more ecological, environmental, quality and economical approach in the maintenance and management of our green and urban landscapes. It also integrates education and communication dimensions.
